The neck lift tightens the platysma muscle (platysmaplasty), removes excess neck skin, and restores the clean chin-to-neck angle that defines a youthful neck profile. For patients with visible neck cords, platysmaplasty corrects this by suturing the separated muscle edges together in the midline — eliminating the banding and creating internal support that holds long-term.
A neck lift is not performed as a standalone procedure for patients with skin laxity or banding. These patients need the structural support of a facelift for a balanced, lasting result.
