Question: FACE LIFT – SHORT TERM GRATIFICATION OR LONG TERM RESULT?

Dr A’s Answer: Very good question. Of course surgical rejuvenation of your face is not going to halt future age changes. You should expect to resume age related appearance changes starting from your new post-operative appearance. Different surgeries will age differently. Compared to what you would have looked like had you not had surgery, eyelid surgery is likely to maintain a substantial improvement for a very long time, probably the rest of your life. Facelift is going to also maintain an improvement, but the gap will close a little faster than eyelid surgery. The main point to recognize is that surgery can only change the shape and quantity of tissue, not the age of the tissue itself. The microscopic cellular changes that occur with aging are not altered with surgery and at some point aged appearance is inevitable no matter what you do to reshape the tissue.
