What to Expect with Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a general term for any surgical change to the size or shape of a person’s nose. Before the Procedure

In the two weeks leading up to the surgery, protect your skin by staying out of the sun whenever possible. Try to avoid aspirin or ibuprofen during this time, as they can cause your blood to thin.

During the Procedure

The surgery itself will take from two to five hours, depending on the work being done. You will have a choice between different kinds of anesthesia. You can be sedated and most likely sleep through the procedure or you can receive general anesthesia that will leave you temporarily fully unconscious.

 
After the surgery you will be closely monitored while you recover. You may leave shortly after regaining consciousness, or it may be best for you to stay the night.

After the Procedure

You will probably wear a small splint for about one week after the surgery. Scars are rare following this procedure, and any swelling you experience will likely subside within days. Pain usually lasts only one or two days and can be controlled with medicine. Before long, you will be feeling perfectly fine and enjoying your new look.
