What Can Lip Enhancement Do for You?

Lip enhancement, also known as lip augmentation, is a procedure that can greatly improve one’s appearance and sense of self-image. During these procedures, one’s lip size is increased in order to provide a fuller, more attractive look. Patients both male and female may undergo this treatment, and they may have either lip or both lips at the same time augmented.

What options are there?

There are two main options available for the enhancement of one’s lips. A patient may opt to either have injections or grafts as his or her lip augmentation procedure.

Typically, when one chooses injection as his or her treatment of choice, either collagen or fat are the mediums used to enhance the appearance of the lips. This procedure is non-surgical. The augmentation materials are directly inserted through small needles. With this option, the body often absorbs the collagen or fat after a certain amount of time, and repeat procedures are necessary if the patient want to maintain the fuller lip appearance.

Grafts, on the other hand, require surgery, and they grafting material from other human donors. AlloDerm and SoftForm are two popular implant materials these days. Implants are inserted through small incisions made inside the lips. Implants will last longer than simple injections, although the patients do have to undergo local anesthesia.
