Understanding Chin Implant Surgery

Chin implants are most commonly used to improve the appearance of a weak chin. Strong chins are usually considered attractive in males and as a result it is men that are most commonly interested in improving their chin. However, women are also known to take advantage of the chin implant’s ability to transform one’s appearance.

The Procedure

You can choose to be awake or be put under anesthesia during the surgery. To insert the implants, incisions are made either under the chin or inside the mouth. The benefit of the incision inside the mouth is that there are no visible scars after the procedure. The implant is then set under the skin of your chin. Supportive tissue grows around the implant after a few weeks to hold the implant in place.

Once the surgery is complete, supportive tape is put on the chin and it should remain on for a few days. You should not experience bruising after the surgery but there may be some swelling and soreness. However, after the implant has healed, it should feel like a normal part of your chin.
