Types of Mini Face Lifts

Because the idea of a full-blown, invasive face lift can be daunting for some people, most plastic surgeons can now perform mini-lifts that have faster recovery times than traditional, full face lifts. Of course, you do lose some of the effectiveness of the full lift, but undergoing a mini-lift can help smooth out a problem area and allow you to return to your normal activities faster than with a full lift.

Undergoing an S-Lift

An S-lift is a type of mini-lift that is so named due to the shape of the incision made by the surgeon. Instead of having a cut along your hairline and up under your ear like with a traditional lift, this type of mini-lift results in a much smaller incision. An S-lift is started with the surgeon making an S-shaped cut starting at the hairline above the ear. It curves down in an S-shape, ending slightly under the ear.

An S-lift works best on the lower third of your face. Like with regular face lifts, the doctor peels apart the layers of your skin, trims the fat, repositions the muscles, then trims away excess skin before reattaching it. This is best for sagging cheeks, mouth parentheses, and floppy skin along the chin and jawline.

The Mid-face Lift

A mid-face lift relies on two small incisions to help the appearance of the bottom half of the face. The surgeon will cut along the hairline just above the ear and continue in a curve over your ear. Also, there are incisions underneath the eye and inside the cheeks. Next, the doctors reposition the fat pads of your cheeks to fix their sagging look. Also, the other tissue is realigned to smooth out your face. After the surgeon is finished, he or she closes up the tiny cuts.
