Types of Forehead Lifts

Forehead wrinkles and worry lines can happen for a number of reasons. Besides the inescapable effects of age, things like sun exposure, strong facial expressions, and loss of facial fat can contribute to your creasing. Luckily, however, there are several different things that you can do to rid yourself of these telltale signs of age.

While a number of people opt for Botox or other injections to give quick fixes to their wrinkles, others opt for more substantial procedures, such as forehead lifts. A subset of complete facelifts, forehead lifts are able to focus specifically on the upper face and can even adjust your hairline problems. Another benefit of lifts is that they can last for years, while injections only last about six months on average.

First, a pretrichial lift needs a long incision across the top of your forehead, but this process can lower your hairline, if this is what you are looking for. Doctors pull the skin up from the eyebrows, while also pulling the scalp down towards the face, removing the strip in the middle. This is ideal for people with high foreheads—it not only smoothes wrinkles, but it decreases the height of your upper face.

Next, an endoscopic lift is very different from a pretrichial lift in that it requires about five small cuts in the hairline, rather than one big incision. However, this surgery can actually raise your hairline a bit and is slightly less drastic than the other lift. It is ideal for a small amount of eyebrow raising rather than a dramatic change in your face.

A coronal lift is one of the oldest types of brow lifts. In this process, an incision is made in the hairline across the top of the head, usually from ear to ear. The muscles and tissue are then readjusted, smoothing your forehead. A small strip of tissue is removed, which can raise the hairline slightly. However, this is known to be a very long-lasting procedure.

Lastly, plastic surgeons can perform a direct brow lift or a mid-forehead lift. Both of these focus mainly on the eyebrows rather than the forehead. Incisions are made in places where worry lines form, which is good for men who are losing their hair. Thus, the cuts are hidden in the face rather than where the hairline should be.
