Reducing the Visibility of Scars
Scars occur when multiple layers of the skin have been damaged. This could be from an injury, a surgery, or even from years of acne. Whatever the cause, many people are unhappy with scars and may become subconscious about their appearance as a result. The good news is that there are options that can help reduce the visibility of scars and, in some cases, make them seem like they were never there.
For scars that appear to dip into the skin, injections can help to smooth out the skin. Acne scars are a good example of this type, where they appear to be small divot-like scars. There are multiple injection or filler options that can be used to essentially fill in those dips in the skin. The down side is that fillers are not permanent and would have to be used every so many months to continually achieve the desired look.
A more serious and permanent option to reducing scar visibility is laser resurfacing. This is a procedure that effectively removes layers of skin from the surface and allows new, fresh skin to grow in its place. This operation has depth options that can change how dramatic the results will be and how long they will last.
