Getting Rid of Acne Scars
There are several procedures that can help rid the scarring left from years of acne. Some involve chemical treatments, while others require needle or laser work. Discuss with your Austin facial surgeon which option is best for you.
Using Injections
Dermal fillers, like collagen or acid derivatives, can be injected into acne scars to raise the surface of the skin and give the face a smoother look. The biggest drawback to this option is that the injections are not permanent. This means that the process would have to be ongoing in order to correct the acne scars.
Getting Under the Surface
Punch excisions, elevations, and subcutaneous incisions are procedures that remove the scars themselves. In a punch excision, a tool the size of the scar is used to remove the scar. The skin edges are then sutured together. Subcutaneous incisions actually break up the fibers that cause the scarring using a beveled needle under the surface of the skin.
The Top Technology
A variety of skin defects can be treated using laser resurfacing. The laser works by burning the top layers of skin to a precise depth. The burned layers are replaced by newer appearing skin during the healing process. Post-operative care is extremely important at this stage. It is a large factor in determining the success of the procedure.
