Chemical Peel

To improve your skin’s appearance, consider a chemical peel. Chemical peels are also known as derma-peeling or chemexfolilation. During the treatment, a chemical solution is placed on the skin. The solution causes the skin to blister and peel off. Beneath, is a new, fresh layer of skin that is smoother and less wrinkled than the old. This new skin is very sensitive and should not be exposed to the sun.

Chemical peels help to reduce fine lines, scarring, acne, and spots. However, they do not work well for deep wrinkles or bulges. These items require more surgical procedures such as laser resurfacing, lifts, and soft tissue fillers.

People who have a light complexion are the best candidates for chemical peels. Chemical peels may, however, still work well for those who have darker complexions. A doctor will be able to tell you if you are a good candidate.

The surgery is an outpatient procedure. During the procedure you will feel a stinging sensation. Cool compresses can help to alleviate this pain. If the procedure is serious, pain medication may be given.

Ask your doctor if you need someone else to drive you home. After the procedure, make sure you apply sunscreen to your new layer or skin to protect it. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics depending upon the depth of the chemical peel.
