Blepharoplasty
There are many different reasons to get a blepharoplasty procedure done. Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, can help your vision while taking years off your eyes. The procedure also removes much of the puffiness that many of us fight every morning. For others, “bags” under the eyes are not just a morning-after effect, but are permanent and usually hereditary.
The procedure on the upper eyelid involves an incision near the eyes where excess fat, skin, and muscle can be removed. Sutures are then used to close the wound and minimize scars. Procedures on the lower eyelids are usually the same and may leave less visible scarring.
Blepharoplasty is strictly an eyelid surgery procedure. It is not a procedure used to fix dark circles around the eyes, wrinkles in the skin, or eyebrows that sag. It is its own procedure, but that is not to say your surgeon cannot recommend another procedure that will compliment your eyelid surgery, such as a facelift or brow lift. If you are in Austin, and interested to know more, you can reach Dr. Apostolakis to help you make a well informed decision.
Considerations for Blepharoplasty
Your surgeon will look at a number of factors when deciding how the procedure will be performed. Factors include age, medical history, skin type, and the degree of obstruction in vision due to the eyelids. A consensus will then be reached by you and your surgeon that will establish the optimal outcome. Your physician will then decide the best facility, support staff, cost, procedures, and type of anesthesia needed for a successful procedure.
